CHANDIGARH: The Senior Police Superintendent (SSP) of Faridkot district in Punjab, Jasminder Singh, miraculously escaped powerful bomb blast, as 20people, including six militants, were killed on April 16.

The SSP and his escort escaped unhurt when a powerful bomb blasted on Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway near village Chak Sarwan Nath, immediately after their vehicle passed by.

The SSPs escorts chased the militants and in the ensuing exchange of fire shot dead one of them. Two others, however, managed to escape.

Reports said the bombs were fitted with a remote control. One 30 bore revolver, a mouser and some cartridges were found on the spot. This was the second attack on senior Punjab police officials in this district. Earlier, on April 1, S. Tiwana, superintendent police (operations) his daughter and two others were killed in a bomb blast.

The ballet ridden body of one Tarsem Singh was recovered from Dhand Kasel village under Chabhal police station area Thursday. The victim was kidnapped from his house.

Gunmen shot dead three people, identified as Gur Lal, Lal Chand and Harnek Singh, in village Mehma Sahai in Bathinda district Wednesday.
