GUWAHATI: Two newspaper editors were arrested under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (prevention) Act here on July 5 allegedly for their involvement in the activities of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) according to official sources.

N Dutta Baruah editor of English daily News Star and Ajit Bhuyan editor of Assamese weekly Sad in were picked up early in the morning.

The sources said Dutta Baruah had been arrested for participating in an extortion attempt by the underground outfit on the basis of information provided by ULFA vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi.

Dutta Baruah along with Bora and an officer of the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) had been negotiating with Gogoi for ULFAs demand.
