SASKATOON: Sardar Mohinder Singh Sach Dev was awarded an Famed Doctor of Science Degree (D. Se) by the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada at the 1994 Spring Convocation The Earned Doctor of Science Degree is only awarded 16 the most outstanding Scholars and the selection process is very intensive. The winning Candidate must be both nationally and internationally recognized by the authorities and must have significantly altered the course of research in his field. By coming this degree Dr. Sach dev has brought honor not only to himself and his family but also to our community.

Dr. Sach dev was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada in 1968 even before he completed his Ph.D. degree from the University of Saskatchewan He was promoted to Full Professor in 1976 and he served as Head of the Electrical Engineering Department from 1988-1993

Dr. Sach Dev has been involved in a wide range of power system research. He was one of the first research workers to use Computers to replace traditional analog devices for power system protection and he has since done pioneering work in the development of algorithms and devices for protecting lines transformers and generators. In the course of this work Dr Sachdev has supervised Over 40 graduate student theses projects and he is the author or co-author of over 150 publications in addition to the numerous contributions he has made to books and to technical reports.

Dr. Sach dev has participated extensively in both the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Canadian Electrical Association. He has served as the Chairperson of the Power System Protection Subsection and he is presently Chairperson of the Power System Planning and Operating Section of the Canadian Electrical Association. It is a unique honor for an academic to chair a Section in this Canadian electric power utility organization. Dr. Sach Dev was also asked to serve on the Electromagnetic and Energy System Research Grant Committee and he chaired this committee for the 1993-1994 period.

The achievements of Prof. Sach dev are a matter of great pride for all of us.
