NEW DELHI (PTI): India stands unfavorably in its pursuit of economic reforms and making it a big Success when compared to the basics like average levels of education and public health care enjoyed by the other Asian Tigers like South Korea China and Thailand according to noted Indian economist Prof Amartya Sen.

A higher level of basic education is a necessary precondition for economic take-off as is reflected in the success of these growing Asian economies which had all these basics while undertaking large scale liberalization measures in the 80s” Prof Sen. said. Prof Shoe i as it developed higher education system and a abysmally low level of elementary education. Since the other developing countries have had higher average adult literacy fates at the time of their take off stage India should at least achieve it soon.

While delivering the first D.T.Lakdawala memorial lecture last week Professor Sen said that lack of elementary education makes the goals of economic expansion hard to realize.
