AMRITSAR: The police here have registered two separate cases of sedition against the All-India Sikh Students Federation General Secretary, Mr. Harminder Singh Sandhu, and Mrs. Pritam Kaur, widow of Mr. Rachhpal Singh, who was a private assistant to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

The cases, under Section 124-A IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Terrorist Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, have charged Mr. Sandhu and Mrs. Pritam Kaur with making provocative and pro-Khalistan speeches at a gathering in the Manji Sahib Diwan Hall in the Golden Temple complex on December 5 and 6. Mr. Sandhu had reiterated the Sikh goal as Khalistan and announced to set up Khalsa Panchayats while addressing the gathering.

When contacted about the registration of the case against him, Mr. Sandhu said that his speech at the Manji Sahib was nothing new. It was based on the policy the Federation had already announced on September 20.

He alleged that the new Central Government was following the foot-step of the Rajiv Gandhi government.

“The registration of such cases is not going to help in bringing peace in Punjab,” he added.
