Chandigarh: Republic day woke up in Chandigarh to greet Khalistan flags. Chandigarh Administration and round the clock patrolling units of the police and para military forces were stunned to find Khalistan flags fluttering over buildings and poles where national flags were to be formally unfurled. The elaborate security arrangements and almost warlike precautions failed to deter the determined, Sikhs from proclaiming their objective in such a bold manner. Chief Commissioner Chandigarh Union Territory had hurried consultations with the Inspector General of Police and Military experts.
The appearance of Khalistan flags unnerved the ruling party and was looked upon by the Sikhs as signals for the approaching freedom from the choking communal domination of Hindus.
