CHICAGO: Sikh Religious Society “Of Chicago is sponsoring a historical Punjabi play “Dharam Di Chudar” ‘based on the martyrdom, life, teachings and scripts of the ninth Sikh ‘Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur (16211675), who sacrificed his life to save the religion of Kashmiri Pandit, thereby setting an example of right to religious freedom, is being stayed on October 21, 1995 at the Glenbard west High School Auditorium, 670 Crescent Blvd., in Glen Ellyn to a suburb of Chicago. The show is 7 pm sharp.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was the son of the fifth Sikh Guru Arjun Dev (who was tortured to death), son of the sixth Guru Hargobind (who was attacked and imprisoned in Gwalior fort) and father of the tenth Guru Gobind Singh (who was acted and his four young children killed two of them buried alive).

Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded at Chandni Chowk, Delhi on November 11, 1675, Gurdwara Sis Ganj stands there in his memory. A courageous Sikh Bh broke through security to take away the holy head of the Guru to Anandpur. Apprehensive Of the government reprisal, a devout Sikh Lakhi Shah and his sons cremated Guru’s sacred body by setting fire 10 their own house with the body in it, there stands a Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, near Parliament House in New Delhi.

The play is directed and acted by a famous Punjabi TV and Film director Harpal Tiwana of Punjab India. Other star performers are Nina Tiwana and Nirmal Rishi of Gulabo Maasi fame. A cast of professional artists from Canada is also accompanying the drama troupe. The play is a challenge in theatrics because traditionally due to utter reverence for our Gurus and their holy Families, no set or sure allowed to in personate them,” said Tarlochan Singh Malas the pee of Sikh Religious Society of Chicago, General admission donations are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
