CHANDIGARH: Twelve people were killed while a militant escaped from police custody overnight Sunday in Punjab where over two thousand people have died this year alone in the suppression of the Sikh demand for a separate homeland police said here. Assailants shot dead Malkiat Singh in Katwa village in Sangrur district and an unidentified person in Sadhan village in Bhatinda district. An unidentified militant was shot dead in a shoot-out with security forces near Chandasega village in Batala district while two persons fell to militants’ bullets in Anandpur Sahib town in Ropar district.

Three persons including a couple identified as Malook Singh and Harbans Kaur were gunned down in Kohala village in Majitha district. The third victim was identified as Jota Singh.

Gunmen shot dead Mahant Dass in Hakam Wala village in Bhatinda district and Kartar Singh in Barpal village in Majitha district

An unidentified militant was killed in a shoot-out with security forces near Jhando village in Batala district. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot Case .

Tara Singh was shot dead in Maqbool Pura area of Amritsar city Sunday night police said here.

A militant Manjinder Singh escaped from police custody near Mahala Kalan village in Faridkot district police said.
