BATHINDA:A joint meeting of the leaders of various Akali factions the Samajwadi Janata Party the Janata Dal the communist party of India and independents contesting elections here called upon their state and center leaderships to chalk out a common Strategy on Punjab and launch a common struggle for restoration of peace and democracy in the state The meeting presided over by the senior Akali Dal (Longowal) leader and former Punjab minister Baldev Singh Khayala condemned the election commission’s decision of postponing elections in the state and described it as a surrender before the foreign backed anti-national elements who were opposing elections in Punjab.

In a joint statement the leaders said the election commission decision was partial and politically motivated

They alleged the decision would help the anti-national forces and weaken the democratic and patriotic forces who were fighting bravely for restoring peace and democratic set-up in the troubled state

They said the workers and leaders of their parties had sacrificed their lives during the poll campaign but the election commission illegally and unconstitutionally postponed elections in the state without consulting the contesting parties.
