LUDHIANA: Director General of Police K.P.S.Gill claimed, on Feb.19, that peace in Punjab would be permanent this time in spite of some international attempts to destabilize the state. Talking to newsmen here, he denied reports that Babbar Khalsa International was trying to reorganize itself, He questioned the very existence of this outfit and claimed that it has only one or two activists and even they were abroad. He disclosed that there were still 17 Punjab militants in Pakistan. Asked about the introduction of commissioners of police at Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, Gill replied that it would take some time as the legislation which was to be introduced in the coming session of the Assembly beginning on March 4 was not yesterday. He said that main hitch was the misunderstanding about the role of police under the proposed system. He claimed that not much powers would come to the police with such a never set up.
