NEW DELHI: For calling the national Selectors a “bunch of jokers”, Mohinder Amarnath has been fined Rs 20,000.

There isno other punishment and he will be eligible for selection, said Mr. Ranbir Singh, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

But the 38 year old Test star himself staged a walkout from the meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of the Board at Taj Palace Hotel here.

Mohinder Amarnath had pleaded that he be heard through his lawyer Haresh Jagtani. But the members of the Disciplinary Committee did not agree to this. He ‘was penalized for “misconduct.”

Mohinder told the waiting newsmen that there was no hearing at all as his plea was turned down, Mohinder came to know of the fine later from the newsmen only.

Mr. Ranbir Singh gave no further indications of the discussions at the Disciplinary Committee meeting which was headed by the Cricket Board President Mr. B.N. Dutt, Other members of the committee were Mr. Ghulam Ahmed, Mr. Madhav Rao Scindia, Mr. Abbas Ali Baig and Mr. Ashok Mankad.

No information was available as to the date within which Mohinder would have to pay the fine or what further punishment would be meted out to him in case he failed to pay.
