QILA RAIPUR (Ludhiana): A rousing finish to the bullock cart races and a splash of color and cultural festivals brought the curtain down on the 56th All India Qila Raipur Rural Sports and Cultural Festival at the Grewal Stadium here this evening.

The bullock cart races title was won by Billu Singh of Sarabha, He was followed by Surinder Singh of Guijarwal and Bachan 1Singh of Rorian respectively.

In athletics Rajwant Kaur of RCF emerged the fastest clocking 12.08 seconds to win the 100 meters race. Rajiv Mohan of RCF was crowned the fastest man. He clocked 11,09 seconds to win the 100 meters for men.

In weightlifting feats Baljit Singh of Chawa lifted 120 kg of manageable weight in the form of a plough with his teeth. The hockey final generated considerable enthhusiasm in which the BSF and ASC, Jalandhar produced a rich fair. The BSF emerged 54 winners via tiebreaker.

In rural weightlifting events, Darshan Singh of Rajgarh Doraha defied his severe physical handicap he has only one arm to Jift230 kg of unmanageable weight to hold the crowd spellbound. In the tug of war Patiala beat Ropal. The other semifinals were Amritsar (1) and Amritsar (II).

AA jarring note was provided by the State Governor, Mr. S. 8. Ray who brought the sporting events to an unscheduled halt to accommodate his speech. He announced a grant of Rs I lakh for the organizers of the festival.

The organizers honored five hockey Olympians Sukhbir Grewal, Balkrishan Singh, Hardcep Singh, Balbir Singh (Rail Ways), Iqbaljit Singh and Gurbax Singh, international cyclist Atexi Grewal, national stars Ranjit Singh, Daljit Singh, Jagwinder Singh, Jagiinder Singh and Surjit Singh
