BOMBAY: AirIndia’s Edgar Mascarenhas, who represented India in the 1990 Lahore Hockey World Cup, has been banned indefinitely by the Indian Hockey Federation (THF) from playing for the country, state, unit or any club in India which comes under the jurisdiction of the IHF.

Newly appointed IHF coach, Zafar Iqbal, had wanted Edgar back in the side. Edgar declined to join the national camp and in turn critized the functioning of the IHF in a local newspaper. He only preferred to play for his present employers Air India, he had said.

Ased for his reactions regarding the ban, Edgar stated that it was news to him and that he had not received anything in writing as yet “I don’t know what course of action to take the opinion of my employers,” Edgar added.

Edgar was undecided as to whether he would take up any foreign contracts. It may be remembered that he had some offers in the recent past.
