CHANDIGARH; The situation in Sultanpur Lodhi and Nikodar sub divisions in Punjab, continued to be serious as the authorities continued their rescue operations. The death toll rose to about seven hundred; however the official figures are 449 until now.
Ninety two people are stated to be missing. The people are still marooned in Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi is still cut off from the district headquarters.
Meanwhile the Punjab Governor S.S. Ray has said that 9243 villages out of the total 12000 have been affected by the recent flash floods and 2330 villages have been totally cut off and marooned.
