CANDIGARH India: both the former Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhajan Lal and the Congress (I) M.L.A. Mr. Surinder Singh were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana. The two vacancies were caused by the retirement of Sultan Singh Congress (I) and Sushil Chander of Lok Dal. They were the only two candidates who had filed their nomination papers and announcement of their election was mere formality. The opposition party in Haryana Vidhan Sabha boycotted this election. Both of them are members of Haryana Vidhan Sabha and their election would render the two seats vacant in the 90 member house with strength of 87.
