ASANSOL (PTI): A total of 161 persons were killed and about827 others seriously injured in coal mine accidents in India during 1991.

The death rate per thousand per-~ sons employed was 0.29 in 1991 against0.31 in 1990.and the figures for those seriously injured was 151 during 1991 against 1.83 in 1990 according to sources from the directorate general of mines safety (DGMS).

At least 114 persons were killed and about 296 others seriously injured in accidents in the country’s non-coal mine sector during 991 the sources said. Further the death rate per thousand persons employed was 0.50 in 1991 against 0.33 in 1990.

Altogether 275 Persons were killed in 256 fatal accidents and 1123 others seriously injured during 1991 in coal and non-coal: mines in India. The figures in 1990 were 218 dead and 1327 seriously injured.

An average of nearly 7.77 lakh Persons work daily in coal and non-coal mines in the: sources said.
