CHANDIGARH: The Indian government has decided to pull out the Border Security Force from Punjab and to induct more Central Reserve Police Force battalions to fill the consequential void.

This is presumably being done to meet the situation developing along India’s border with Nepal Bangladesh and Burma.

‘The authorities have been accusing these countries of permitting violent secessionist groups to get training in the use of arms there and returning to India to foment trouble.

Alarming reports of procurement of weapons by Sikh militants from across the Terai-Nepal border have been received necessitating enhanced vigil by the B.S.F which has expertise in detecting border crossings.

Punjab will thus be left to be manned almost entirely by the ‘Punjab police and the C.R.P.F. while the army will as usual stand by in Punjab cantonment’s.
