CHICAGO,ILLINOIS: Sikh Religious Society of Chicago members donated much needed blood to the University of Illinois College of medicine at Chicago Blood Bank to observe Thanks- giving on Sunday Nov.24,1991. The blood donation was carried out at the Langar Hall of the Gurdwara in Palatine, Illinois with the help of U.LC. Hospital crew between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with donors waiting for their tum in crowded lines, this Thanksgiving Gift-To-Life effort was coordinated by Irwin Preét Singh.
“We must put something back into the society we live in and draw from,” said Rajinder Singh Mago, member Asian American Advisory Council to the Governor of Illinois.
The society also prepared dinner for 300 people and delivered to Salvation Army for distribution to the needy in Chicago. This food drive was coordinated by Kanwarjit Singh Chhatwal.
In continuation to this spirit of giving to the needy a load of blankets, towels and several cases of soap were handed to a representative of inter-faith council for the homeless of Chicago area, on Sunday Dec.1,1991 at the Gurdwara in Palatine. This was coordinated by Balwant Singh Hansra.
“All these events coincided with the 522nd Birth Anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak the founder of Sikhism, who preached the uplifting of all mankind,” said Harbans Singh Sangha the society president.
