CHANDIGARH: The union territory of Chandigarh has been declared a “disturbed area” under the disturbed areas act.
Under the act, the army and security forces can search, raid and arrest suspected persons without a warrant.
The step was taken following high level consultations among Punjab, Chandigarh and army authorities.
The entire state of Punjab has already been declared as “disturbed”, Chandigar is the joint capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana.
