STOCKHOLM: India tops Swedish arms buyers’ list according to a report published for Sweden’s arms exports for 1990.
Of the total equipment exported during the year 1990 valued at 3.327 billion Swedish crowns India accounted for 1,117,150,000 crowns distantly followed by Nato and Norway with 447,098,000 seek. Pakistan shared with Portugal a rather lowly place with 4000000 crowns a piece.
The overall value of exports declined considerably during 1990 comprising just under one per cent of the total Swedish ex-ports of goods compared with 1.8% for 1989. The average for the last 10-year period stands at 139.
While Swedish arms exports to European countries increased in 1990 those to Asia and South America showed a slight decrease.
