PILIBHIT: Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar offered on Wednesday to review the cases against those militants in Punjab who were ready to return to the National Mainstream.

Addressing two election meetings in Pilibhit the parliamentary constituency of Maneka Gandhi the Prime Minister said he would not like to keep such people in jail.

Defending his decision to hold elections in Punjab Chandra Shekhar said he had told the state governor Gen O P Malhotra to ensure that innocent persons were not prosecuted in the drive against secessionist elements.

He was critical of the Congress I decision not to participate in the elections in the state and said that the party wanted “the present climate to continue there for reasons best known to it.
