NEW DELHI: Film star Rajesh Khanna was among the over 200 nominees who entered the fray Thursday for the November 16 by-elections as nominations closed in Delhi, Rajasthan and Manipur.
Khanna filed his nomination as the Congress (I) candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in the by-elections for 16 Lok Sabha and 58 assembly seats.
More than 160 aspirants are in the field for the New Delhi constituency which fell vacant when BJP leader L.K. Advani resigned after he was also elected to the Lok Sabha from Gandhi agar in Gujarat. The BJP has fielded actor Shatrughan Sinha as its candidate.
A total of 84 candidates are seeking election to the four assembly seats in Rajasthan.
Among those whose electoral fortunes will be decided in the by-polls, is the Prime Minister, P.V Narasimha Rao contesting from the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh, and the defense minister, Sharad Pawar from Baramati in Maharashtra.
