SUVA: In the wake of desecration and attacks on two Hindu temples here some three weeks ago, another major Hindu temple here has come under attack.

The attackers firebombed a temple in Tamavua, some three km from the capital last Saturday.

Temple statues and religious texts, including several copies of the Ramayana, were first piled in the center of the temple, before they were set alight.

The temple was unattended at the time of the attack and has suffered extensive damages.

Two other key Hindu temples in capital Suva were firebombed in mid-September.

No one has yet been arrested for the two earlier attacks.

The chief priest at the Sangam temple in the western town of Nadi was also assaulted.

A statement released by Fiji youth and students league spokeswomen, Kushma Ram on October 14 has hit govt at the interim government and the commissioner for police.

It said “the interim regime must accept full responsibility for the increasing intolerance of the Hindu religion in Fiji.

The youth league has also accused the police “of connivance and neglect in these systematic efforts on part of some fundamentalist groups to hurt the dignity and honor of Fijis Hindus”.

The Fiji youth and students league is organizing a march in capital Suva to protest the action.
