CHANDIGARH, India: Hundreds of inmates of Central Jail of Amritsar were hastily shifted to Nabha and Kapurthala jails, following three, days of constant trouble inside the jail. The prisoners, whisked away to these jails, were moved under strict security arrangements. They were mainly members of the All India Sikh Student Federation and army deserters who were earlier confined to the cell on their reported hunger strike and refusal to handle work assigned to them by the jail authorities. Official sources said, the inmates resorted to such action against the installation of iron grills at the place of the meeting with their visitors. Unconfirmed sources said that the prisoners had also clashed with the warden inside the jail, The sources explain that the installation of the grill was one of the precautionary measures taken after the Kapurthala jail break. The other measures include wire fencing and raising the boundary wall. Shifting of the prisoners was kept a closely guarded secret.
