NEW DELHI India: Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said that measures to help black Africa would be proposed by India at the nonaligned summit in Harare.
Gandhi chairman of the movement until the summit chooses a successor said several hours before leaving for Harare that sanctions must be imposed immediately against Pretoria to end apartheid quickly.
We must be clear that the frontline states and some others will suffer some damage to the economy and face harsh retaliation from Pretoria he added
The nonaligned movement should put together a package of measures to assist them through this difficult period he told the country’s main news agency the Press Trust of India
Gandhi said the end of apartheid brooks no delay and sanctions should start immediately without waiting for internationally coordinated action He said apartheid Namibia nuclear disarmament and better economic cooperation between developing nations would be the main issues discussed at the summit.
He said the meeting also should consider threats to international order from erosion of the United Nations system and the use by some nations of unilateral action.
