FRESNO, Ca. On January 10, 1988, the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh was celebrated by the Sikh Association of Fresno with religious fever at the residence of Dr. Harcharan S. Chann. The celebrations followed the recitation of Guru Adi Granth Sahib (Sacred Sikh Scriptures) and melodious kirtan bya Jatha of International Institute for Gurmat Studies (IIGS).
The function was attended by most of the Sikhs of the area with their families and local friends.
Several Sikh leaders such as Sardar Didar Singh (President World Sikh Organization International), Jathedar Tejinder Singh of Canada (Member of Khalistan Council from Canada), Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, President Khalistan Council, Dr. Sukhmander Singh, United Akali Dal and Gurnam Singh Pamma, (President W.S.O. West Coast), were guest speakers. The Sikh leaders stressed the unity among the Sikh community which is paramount at this critical juncture. It is the disunity which is putting us through this suffering remared Jathedar Tejinder Singh. The sovereignty of Sikh state Khalistan is our only goal stated Dr.Aulakh and Sardar Bains. We have not achieved as much as we had desired and the progress has been slow but with the help of the Sangat the project which are essential and which will contribute towards achieving sovereignty of Sikh nation could be expedited. Dr. Sukhmander Singh asked the Sangat to devote at least one weekend a month to address the issues concerning Sikhs and get involved in the struggle.
The Chief Guest speaker Hon. Chip Pasyau, Congressman from Fresno district extended his best wished for the occasion and assured his whole hearted support for the noble cause.
