New Dehli: Janta party president Chandu Shekhar, BJP president Atal Bihari Vajpayee Jagjiwan Ram, Biju Patnaik, George Fernandes, Madhu Dandvate, Jethmalani, Nikhil Chaudhari and host of other opposition stalwarts have been defeated. Charan Singh from U.P and Congress (S) President Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra have managed to win. Interestingly all those leaders who at one stage or the other had expressed sympathy for the minorities have suffered defeat. It is an ominous development and does not augur well for the much talked of secular pretense.
