CHANDIGARH: Over the week 49 persons were killed in Punjab, on July 2, 12 including three women and three members of a marriage party were killed and nine militants arrested with arms and ammunition in Punjab since Sunday night.

Four men abducted a father and a son identified as Rajinder Singh and Shamsher Singh from Saroppar village in Ludhiana district on Monday.

Armed men stopped a bus carrying a marriage party near village Chand Purana in Faridkot district and opened fire killing one Ajit Singh and injuring 18 others.

Two of the injured persons succumbed to their injuries in the local civil hospital this afternoon, police said.

The ill-fated bus was on its way to Bhatinda.

A gang stopped a car nearby and shot and injured three occupants in it,

Another gang struck in village Jaurasunder in Tarn Taran district around midnight and shot dead three women and injured five family members.

Elsewhere, a gang shot dead one Darbar Singh and his son, Sukhwant Singh after raiding their house in village Mahmoodpura under Valotha police station in Tarn Taran district. Police suspected the killings to be the result of inter gang rivalry.

Two militants gunned down one Gurbachan Singh Jat in village Chaparchiri in Ropar district.

Pritam Singh Dhillon, a village chief who was kidnapped on Saturday was later shot dead and his body thrown outside village Manna from where it was picked up by the police on Monday.

Two of the three unidentified intruders trying to sneak into Punjab from Pakistan from the Rania area in the Attari sector of Amnitsar district were shot dead by the border security force men in an encounter. The third, however managed to escape back.

Five men were arrested with some arms and ammunition by the Bhatinda police. The men according to a police spokesman were involved in the killing of five persons, including three security personnel at village Mehta recently and in several other incidents of looting and snatching of vehicles.

Two other men were arrested after an encounter in Tarn Taran district along with some arms and ammunition. Two more men were nabbed from Hoshiarpur and Batala districts, police said here.

A retired army colonel and two brothers were among seven persons killed on July 1, while a hardcore militant Gurdey Singh was among seven arrested by security forces.

Militants set fire to a Punjab roadways bus after hijacking it and asking the passengers to x: down near village Kander under Tarn Taran police station.

Militants shot dead a person in village Kotla Doma under Lopoke police station, killed another in Sangrur district while a bullet ridden body was recovered from Mallan in Majitha police district.

A priest was shot at and injured in a Gurdwara in village Chhoti Bahamnwala in Sangrur district. In another shoot out one person was critically wounded in village Darwal in Tarn Taran police district.

Four persons, including a militant were killed and nine arrested in Punjab on June 27.

The victims included a village headman and a junior engineer of the PSEB.

Armed men robbed Bank of Baroda of Rs 7.87 lakh in Amnitsar, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, area commander of the Bhindranwale Tiger Force of Khalistan with Rs 25000 award on his head was among those arrested.

Villagers of Loharka Kalan in Amnitsar district beat to death an armed man who along with his accomplices raided the village Tuesday night, the SSP of Majitha said. The accomplices escaped.

Two men were arrested by security forces in Amritsar district early Wednesday morning. One Ak47 rifle with two magazines and one point 303 pistol with a large quantity of ammunition were seized from them. Both of them were responsible for over 10 killings and four bank dacoities police said.

Six men were arrested in ‘other parts of the state.

The national security guards commandos have extended their area of operation to Bhikhiwind, Jhabbal and Mand.
