JAMMU: Kashmiri freedom fighters Tuesday gunned down a ranking state government official in the Kashmir valley were 40 others fell victim {to militancy in the last week.

Joint director of sericulture department JN Raina, was shot dead in his office in the Chinar area,

A retired police officer, a security personnel and a young girl traveling in a mini bus were among those who lost their lives to violence in different parts of the Kashmir valley since Monday.

Eleven bodies were recovered from different areas none of which have been identified so far, an official spokesman said.

However the official spokesman confirmed only 28 deaths including that of JN Raina.

The spokesman also expressed Surprise over reports that six militants were killed in Uni-sector in north Kashmir.

He said the government was not aware of any such encounter.

Militants entered the house of a retired police official Badrinath in Raina wari locality and shot him dead in the early hours of the day.

The city had to go without power, water and Medicare as engineers and doctors, “abstained” from duty alleging “excesses” by security forces,

Militants attacked security forces in outlying townships of Baramulla and Anantnag in separate incidents.

In Baramullah, militants launched a grenade attack on an army convoy winding its way to the border killing one army personnel and injuring three others.

In the other incident in Frisal village in Anantnag, militants ambushed a para military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) party in Frisal village in Anantnag in which one constable was killed and two security men injured.

The spokesman said one more person who could not be identified was killed in the incident.

Following the attack on the army convoy, the entire border town of Baramullah town was cordoned off by security forces.

Militants attacked a public matador at Ganderbal on the outskirts of the city killing one teacher and seriously injuring two other passengers including a four year old girl.

In two other incidents in the civil lines area of the city, one person Ali Mohd was killed and another Ghulam Mohd Khan Alias “Salar” was injured,

Salar was associated with the Awami action committee of supreme religious leader of the state late Mirwaiz Maulvi Farooq.

Police Tuesday recovered four identified bodies, one from Ganderbal and another from the river Jhelum in the downtown area of Habbakadal. Even as security forces arrested two men and seized arms and ammunition from a sector along the line of actual control,

Khan was shot at from point blank range near his house in the capital city of Srinagar while he was on his way to the office; He later died in the hospital.

The killing of Khan comes in the wake of reports in Srinagar that several militant outfits in the valley have threatened to attack government officials in the valley.

An official spokesman who confirmed four deaths, Khan and three women, in different parts of the valley said minor damage was caused to the excise department office building in the city.

Seven persons, including two security men were killed in violence at the residence of a Member of Parliament in his native place and bomb exploded in the houses of two former ministers of the state.

One person was killed when security forces opened fire to scare some people who attacked security personnel with sharp edged weapons in Samkachibal area of Khanyar in downtown Srinagar, it was officially stated.

Official sources however said that two central reserve police force Jawans and a civilian were killed and 10 persons injured when security forces fired after a hand grenade was hurled on them. However no official confirmation was available in this regard.

One person was killed in Anantnag while two unidentified bodies were recovered by security forces Tuesday night from a village in South Kashmir.

Four explosions damaged many houses, two belonging to two former ministers, in different parts of the state.

Two blasts damaged two houses in downtown city and in Batmaloo locality of the city Wednesday.

Militants fired on the residence on National Conference Member of Parliament P.L. Handoo in Anantnag, but no one was injured.
