JALANDHAR: Yet another case of police atrocities has come to light with Bhagwan Dass Talwar moving the Supreme Court for bringing the guilty police officials to book.
In a letter addressed to the chief justice, the copies of which were distributed to the journalists at a press conference, Bhagwan Dass alleged that on the night of April 22, the police party headed by Avtar Singh, assistant sub inspector of Adampur police station in Jalandhar district, entered his residential premises and dragged him out of the house. The cops also manhandled Mrs, Krishna Devi (80) and Mrs. Promila Talwar, mother and wife of the complainant, respectively.
Later, the complainant was whisked away to Adampur 20 km from here in private van, Bhagwan Dass who was sobbing while narrating his tale of woe, said that he was given a severe thrashing by the police personnel and was tortured the whole night, Bhagwan Dass stated that cops with masked face threatened to teach him a lesson if he did not vacate the shop “Mother Touch Dresses and Drappers” owned and run by Mrs, Promil Talwar, his wife, at Maqsoodan.
The ASI, Aviar Singh informed him that a case under Sections 500 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against him. The place where the incidence took place has been registered as Kandola village under the Adampur police station on the FIR.
But according to Talwar, neither did he have any property there nor did he ever visit that place.
Talwar alleged that Sanam Channa, a former employee of the Jalandhar based Punjabi daily and Prithipal Singh, presently employed in the daily, used their influence to get the false case registered against him. The editor of the daily when contacted confirmed the friendship of Satnam Channa with Prithipal Singh and said that Channa was no more their employees since 1991.
