YUBA CITY, Ca.: World Sikh Organization team led by S. Didar Singh Bains, President (International) attended a fundraising dinner for the California Assemblyman Chris Chandler held at Yuba City on July 9, 1987. California Governor, George Deukmejian was the Guest of the Evening which was attended by Mr. John Dolittle also. Ex-Congressman, Mr. Eugene A. Chappie acted as the Master of Ceremonies.

Speaking on the occasion, Gov. Deukmejian referred to the remarkable progress that his government had made in stabilizing a tottering economy and in giving/a balanced budget to the State for five years in ‘a row. He said that the unemployment in the State was the lowest in the country.

In the world economic ratings, California, he said, was the seventh and it will become the fourth largest economic unit in the world by the year 2000.

He reiterated his determination to enact 15 percent income tax rebate for 1987, up to a maximum of $150 for single tax payer and $300 for couples.

He said ‘such a rebate is required because the State collected, in the fiscal year ended June 30, $1.1 billion in revenues over the so-called “Gann Limit” set by a 1979 ballot proposition.

Besides S. Didar Singh Bains, the W.S.O. team included Dr. Gurinder Singh Grewal, Dr: Jasbir Singh Gill, S. Gurcharan Singh Dhillon and Prof. M.S. Sidhu.
