CHANDIGARH: Five persons, including an intruder and a former granthi, were killed and two injured in Punjab during the past 24 hours.

Mr. Kala Singh was gunned down by a gunman at Chote Hasanpur Khurd village in Gurdaspur district.

Mr. Sewa Singh, a former granthi, was shot dead at Pak village under Machiwara police station in Ludhiana district. The village sat panch, Mr. Sukhdev Singh, informed the police of the crime yesterday.

Mr. Gurwant Singh was shot near Dhariwal town in Gurdaspur district.

The bullet ridden body of a businessman. Mr. Manohar Lal, who was kidnapped by gunmen for a ransom of Rs | lakh from his village Thatian Mahanta under Sadar Tarn Taran police station on September 8, was found this morning a report from Amritsar said.

His elder son, Mr. Janak Ram was shot dead by the gunmen who had also seriously wounded his relative Mr. Surrender Kumar at the Tarn Taran bus stand last night.

The Ropar district police recovered two Ak47 Chinese assault rifles from a Maruti car parked outside Basi cinema in Mohali near Chandigarh. The police have impounded the car but no arrest has been made so far.

The security forces recovered three Chinese Ak47 assault rifles and a thousand rounds of ammunition during a raid on a farm house in Bhath village under the Tarn Taran Sadar police station.

The security forces had raided the village on a tip off that some militants were hiding there, but before they could cordon off the farm house, three militants hiding there escaped.

Meanwhile. Combing operations in the entire Tarn Taran police district are continuing.

Amritsar A Pakistani intruder was killed by the BSF on the IndoPakistan border in the Bhikhi wind area of Ajnala on Saturday night.

According to BSF sources five persons trying to sneak into Indian Territory, were challenged by a naka party. As they started fleeing, the party opened fire, killing one of them while the others managed to escape.

KAPURTHALA Three gunmen shot at and injured Lambardar Bachitar Singh (65) at Saidowal Village under Sadar police station 5 km from here on Saturday night. The gunmen went to the tube well of the victim and asked him at gunpoint to accompany them to his house and hand over to them cash and gold ornaments.

Mrs, Rattan Kaur, wife of Mr. Bachittar Singh, raised the alarm on seeing her husband thus accompanied. The sons of Mr. Bachittar Singh Mr. Balwant Singh and Mr. Onkar Singh who had recently returned from West Germany woke up and grappled with the armed persons. In the scuffle one of the gunmen fired a shot injuring Mr. Bachittar Singh on the chest.

‘The gunmen fled throwing their guns at the spot.

Mr. Bachittar Singh, who was admitted to the local civil hospital, was reported to be out of danger. The police have registered a case.

LUDHIANA The district police with the assistance of the security forces, has arrested five militants belonging to the “Khalistan Commando Force” and allegedly recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

The militants are Bala Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Gurbinder Singh, Vijay and Kewal.

According to Mr. S.S. Saini. Senior Superintendent of Police, a Hero Honda motorcycle a VCR and gold ornaments worth Rs 20,000 were also recovered from them.

They were involved in the day light robbery in Dandi Swami in July. Bhagwan Singh was also involved in setting ablaze Gill railway station.
