CHANDIGARH, India: Eleven people including area commander of the outlawed “Khalistan Commando Force” and another freedom fighter were killed in Punjab during the past 24 hours.
Two intruders from Pakistan were shot dead by BSF personnel. One intruder was shot dead in a gun battle with BSF jawans in the Fazilka sector of Ferozepur district early on Sunday morning while his accomplice escaped.
Another intruder was killed by security forces while trying to cross the border at Pul Kanjri village in Amritsar district on Saturday night. His two accomplices, however, escaped.
Security forces gunned down a Sikh in a false encounter near Chhichhrewal village in Gurdaspur district on Saturday night.
Police story, however, said three persons who came on foot, fired at a joint patrol party when asked to stop. In the shootout that followed, one of them was killed while the other two escaped.
The police planted on .38 bore revolver and some cartridges at the site of the alleged encounter.
In another incident in the district, an unidentified Sikh was shot dead by the security forces near Talwandi Jhaura village on Saturday night.
The police said the three persons when asked to stop by a naka party, opened fire and threw two hand grenades. The naka party returned the fire, killing one of them.
