CHANDIGARH, India, July 10, Reuter: Gunmen killed at least six people in Punjab in the past 24 hours even as two power full Sikh political factions moved towards unity and moderation, police and political sources said on Sunday.

Police in the Punjab state capital of Chandigarh said militants gunned down four members of a family in a village near the Sikh holy city of Amritsar on Saturday night.

The gunmen entered a house in Mithapur village and used automatic weapons to kill Lambardar Singh, his brother Swaran Singh, son Devinder Singh and another relative, Sarabjit Singh, the police added.

In another incident near Amitsar the same night, gunmen shot dead a woman in her bedroom and. a man who crossed their path as they were fleeing a village.
