Deeply share the sorrow and mourn the deaths in the earthquake which shook the entire Bay Area on October 17, 1989.

These organizations make an humble appeal to all Sikh in situations and the community to extend every possible help to the earthquake victims.

The World Sikh Organization also appeals to the Sikh Community to contribute liberally to the relief fund through the Red Cross Society with intimation is the World Sikh News, which has been requested to coordinate relief work.

The checks should be written to “Northern California Earthquake Relief Fund” and may be sent to your local office of the Red Cross Society.

The following institutions and individuals have already sent in contributions. The Sikhs of Sacramento held a special prayer for the victims of the earth quake. In response to an appeal of G. Bakshish Singh Banwait General Secretary of the Sikh Temple, the Sangat donated $1100.00 on the spot. The temple management also contributed $1000.00 as relief to the victim. The total amount of $2100.00 was handed over to Sacramento chapter of Red Cross Society.

The management of the Sikh Temple San Jose also donated $1500.00 to the Mayor of San Francisco for the purchase of blankets.

W.S.N. appeals to all the organization to convey the results of their efforts to help the quake victims so as to publish it in the newspaper.
