BOMBAY (PTI): At a press conference here held tight security Harshad Mehta on June 28 released an audio tape containing conversation between himself and the alleged go between who arranged his meeting with the prime minister.

Mehta, the prime accused in the country’s biggest ever financial scandal released the audio tape at a press conference here in presence of his counsels Mahesh Jethmalani and J.B Singhania.

The broker claimed that the conversation in the cassette was between himself and Sunil Mittal, son of a late Congress (I) Parliamentarian, Satpal Mittal, in connection with the meetings with the prime minister.

Mehta, had last fortnight claimed that he had paid Rs 10 million (Dollars 3,33,333) to the prime minister a few days before he was elected to the Parliament through a by election,

The recorded conversation proves that Sunil Mittal, a key eyewitness isaliar, Mehta alleged, adding it also proved that at 1045 hours (IST) on November 4,1991, four persons had met the prime minister at his residence and de livered Rs 6,7 million to him in the morning.

Mehta also demonstrated through a video cassette how Rs 6.7 million could be kept in one suitcase of normal size. Former deputy premier Devi Lal had earlier rejected Mehta’s allegation saying that the amount could not be accommodated in a suitcase of normal size.
