CHANDIGARH, India: The Punjab government has decided not to transfer Mr. Sukhjinder Singh, a former education minister and Akali M.L.A. from Tihar jail to a jail in Punjab. This was stated by D.S. Brar, Deputy Advocate General Punjab before Mr. Justice Mr. Justice Pritpal Singh of Punjab and Haryana High Court when the said petition challenging the detention under National Security Act came up for hearing.
Earlier the court was told by the State Government that it was actively considering the transfer. The petitioner had alleged that his detention at Tihar Jail apart from being illegal was malaise on the part of Chief Minister who is a political opponent of the petitioner.
