KAPURTHALA: Former Minister of the northern state of Punjab and a senior Akali Dal (Badal) leader Sukhjinder Singh called off his nine day old indefinite hunger strike.

The Sikh leader called off the strike around 0300 hours following appeals by federal external minister Inder Kumar Gujral.

Sukhjinder Singh went on the strike on December 18 to press the state government to produce the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) leader Anoop Singh in the court and take action against erring police officials for allegedly kidnapping him.

Meanwhile, state authorities are conducting into the disappearance of the AISSF activist.
