NEW DELHI: The Home Minister Mufti Sayeed said the bill to confer statehood on Delhi would be introduced in the current session of parliament.
He said the issue of statehood to Delhi would be finalized by the federal cabinet within next few days.
Inaugurating the Delhi state Janata Dal convention here, the minister appealed to the party members to sink their differences in view of the elections to the Delhi state assembly in the near future
Voicing concern over the present administrative set of Delhi overburdened with multiplicity of authorities, the conference demanded an imaginative policy for proper rehabilitation of five million slum dwellers in the capital.
The conference also demanded abolition of leasehold system.
