Punjab Coaches To Boycott State And National Games

CHANDIGARH: Members of the Punjab Sports Officers Association organized a dharna in front of the office of the Director of Sports here today.

Junior Sports Officers, Sports Officers and District Sports Officers took partin the dharna, The Association, according to its Secretary, Mr. Joginder Jogi, would boycott the ensuing State Games and the National Games in case its demands were not conceded immediately.

 The Association had been resenting new pay scales recommended for its members besides demanding conveyance and kit allowance.

Mr. Jogi said that the three division level rallies would be organized at Patiala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The first rally would be held at Patiala on March 10 where a memorandum would be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.

A State level rally in June will be held here to be followed by the chain fast and court arrest campaigns.

The Association demanded Rs 18003200 scale for JSOs and senior scales after eight and 18 years; Rs 2,0003,500 for Sports Officers and Rs 24004,000 with Rs 150 as special pay for District Sports Officers.

The Association demanded merger of cadres of JSOs and SOs because of identical responsibilities

Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, President Punjab Olympic Association also addressed the rally and assured full support of the POA.

Mr, Jogi said that Sports Officers enjoying the status of class II gazette officers had not been equated with class II officers of other services but had been discriminately placed in “C” grade category,

The headmasters who initially had the ‘same pay scales as Sports Officers have also been given a higher scale, he added.
