NEW ORLEANS (LA): On December 10, 1995, in a Sikh Prayer Congregation, the Sikh Community of New Orleans honored S, Mohinder Singh Bhalla. A saropa and a gift, Yamaha Key Board, were presented by Sardami Hardyal’ Kaur Mangat (mother of President Dr. Balminder Singh Mangat) Mr. Bhalla’s dedication to recite Gurbani, with an outstanding art of music, was highly appreciated. Mr. Bhalla, a resident of Jackson Mississippi, about 200 miles from New Orleans, often comes to New Orleans to ‘attend prayer congregations.

Mr. Bhalla was born on May 4, 1931. in the family of the proud parents Bawa Jagat Singh Bhalla and Bibi Lajwanti in District Ferozepur. He took his B.A. degree from Ferozepur in 1952andhis BAB. T. from Faridkot in 1957. He took M.A. degree in Vocal Music from Allahabad University in 1963 and BA degree in Vocal & Instrumental) Music from Bombay Gandharay Vidyala in the following year. He was the first male graduate ‘who took M.A degree in Music Science in 1972 from The Punjabi University Patiala, He served The Punjab Education Department from 1953 till 1989 when he retired as a Principal of Senior Secondary School.

Mr. Bhalla and his wife, Bibi Manjit Kaur, are blessed with one son (Kulvinder) and three daughters (Gulburg, Shabnam, and Harpreet). ‘The Sikh Community of New Orleans appreciates the Sikh Community, in general, and the Bhalla family, in particular, for their encouragement.to Mr. Bhalla for his dedication to recite Gurbani.
