BC: The atrocious behavior of the Royal Canadian Legion in Surrey B.C has been responded to by the WSO Afier extensive news coverage the Dominion Command of the Legion issued directives 10 all branches to re-assess their policies on head-gear to include the Sikh turban and the Jewish Yarmulke as exempt. The convention in May 1994 when all legion branches will vote on this policy will ultimately be the deciding factor.

We are continually pursuing this issue through all channels of government and organizations available to us we hope that the community will not respond in any antagonistic manner as this could defeat all our efforts to establish support.

Should any of you have statistical information which would include facts figures photographs (or newspaper articles) that show turbaned Sikh veterans in the armies of Commonwealth countries please contact our head office as we have had many requests for this information particularly from the Library of Parliament Our prime concern is to show: the actual number of Sikh veterans in armies of Common wealth countries  their ranks and the divisions for which they served; their awards medals and other honorariums.

Although we are trying to collect all the published facts that may be available in libraries the Canadian Archives can provide little assistance so we are left to our own devices to provide this information to the Canadian public. Please Help!
