Deplores the horrible murder of Sikh students in Bidar, Karnataka, India

It is with deep sorrow ~ and grave concern that we note:

1 — Seven Sikh students of the Engineering College, Bidar were killed, and out of a total of 150 students who went there for graduation ceremonies, 70 were injured on September 15.

2 — Mobs led by right wing Hindu chauvinistic parties targeted the Sikhs, their homes and destroyed Sikh owned property worth at least three million U.S. dollars.

3 — Thousands of Sikhs have been rendered homeless and have had to flee Bidar.

4 — The police actively connived and participated in the mayhem. Arson and looting continued for two days after police said everything was “under control.”

5 — National Press in India black out the ghastly tragedy for days and then underplayed it, perhaps because of a government inspired antiSikh hate campaign since last many years.

* We call upon the international media to investigate into this and other gross excesses committed against minorities especially religious minorities like Sikhs, Christians and Muslims by the current regime in India, which came to power by planning and executing the murder of thousands of innocent Sikhs in November 1984 in various parts of India.
