On January 22, 1986, the Delhi Sessions Court passed an order to hang Satwant Singh and Kehar

Singh Subsequent appeals upheld this decision however, according to an earlier ruling of the Supreme Court, upheld by a review bench, “If death penalty is not carried out within two years of its first pronouncement, then it is automatically changed into life imprisonment.” This has become law in India and hundreds of people are serving life terms under this ruling. The Indian government has started to apply pressure on the Constitution Bench, consisting of five judges, to change this ruling in order to execute Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh.
