Sikh Association of America has been instrumental in obtaining the cooperation of the staff of the Center of South and South East Asian Studies Department of the University of Michigan to finalize the plans for the establishment of a Sikh studies program.
‘The University has agreed to provide the necessary institutional support in the form of office and class TOOM space; access to its vast library system; use of its computing facilities, language laboratories, museums, archives etc. The Sikh Nation will provide in agree gate of Three hundred and fifty thousand dollars, payable in such installments and at such times as they may deem appropriate over a five year period of time, the Sikh studies program will become en titled for an endowed “CHAIR IN SIKH STUDIES” and the occupant of the Chair shall be a “tenure track” faculty member.
All we need is a pledge to contribute $1,000 per year for five years from 70 individuals in order to start the program. Whereas a similar pledge from 200 individuals will fulfill our commitment for the establishment of a “CHAIR IN SIKH STUDIES” at one of the prestigious Universities of America for all times to come. Therefore, we would like to urge you to contribute generously for this great Panthic Cause. Please make your checks payable to the “UNIVER SITY OF MICHIGANSIKH ST UDIES PROGRAM? And mail it along with the “PLEDGE FOR M” either to the University of Michigan, Enrichment fund for Sikh Studies, 2522 Literature Science and Arts Building, Ann Arbor, Michigan 481091382 or to us at the under mentioned address, If you decide to mail your contributions to the University directly, please send U.S.A. copy of the Pledge form and check for accountability purposes. Your contributions will be acknowledged by the University.
You will be pleased to know that your evaders have so far received pledges for the total amount of $109,650 of which the sum of $22,650 had been received and forwarded to the University of Michigan by December 31.1985.
Before you make your contributions, please inquire from the company you work for. In regards their policy about matching the funds. I would like to remind you that there are more than a thousand companies in United States who match the contributions that are made to a University. American Motors, A.
