NEW DELHI: The Congress president has nominated Mr. Amarjit Singh Samra and Maj Rajbir Singh as the party candidates for the May 26 by elections to the Nakodar and Ainala Assembly constituent it’s respectively.
The AICC observers for both constituencies Avtar Singh Bhadana and Bhupinder Singh Hooda trade submitted their reports to the AICC last week
The candidature for the Nakodarscat has assumed importance with the party MP from Jalandhar Umrao Singh keen on getting his son Amarjit Singh in.
Both Umrao Singh and the Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh met AICC leaders last week in support of their candidates. The Chief Minister ‘was ostensibly backing the Marked Chairman Amarjit Singh Samra who finally managed to get the ticket
It is said that Umrao Singh’s son lost the race on account of the resolution of the Congress Working Committee not to encourage the practice of giving the party ticket to relatives of party Ieaders injudiciously.
