LOS ANGELES: Sardar Mokand Singh Sidhu, son of Sardar Sunder Singh Sidhu, departed from this world at 5:00 pm on June 6, 1990, at Northridge, California at the age of 81 years and 3 months. His death was preceded by a brief illness. Sardar Mokand Singh Sidhu was born on March 10, 1909 at the village Mehraj, District Bhatinda in a Sikh family which was famous for its devoted and dedication to the service of Sikh community. His forefathers, Baba Kala and Baba Karamchand were devout Sikhs of Shri Guru Har Gobind Sahib and Guru Har Rai Sahib. They fought on behalf of the Guru in the battle with Lala Beg at Gurusar; they were ancestors of the founders of the Phulkian States of the Sikhs. At 1 6, he went to his father who was employed in the merchant navy at Hong Kong, a British Colony and joined the police department. He married Sardarni Harbans Kaur Virk, daughter of the late S. Inder Singh Virk. They have three sons, Malkiat S. Sidhu, an accomplished architect and developer, the late Harbhajan S. Sidhu, Gurbhagat S. Sidhu, and three daughters in law, Amarjit K. Sidhu, Jaspel K. Sidhu, Jagir K. Sidhu, three daughters Ranjit K. Chahel, Gurdev K Vander, Rupinder K Vander and three sons in law, the late S. Harbhajan S. Chahel, Dr. Sahib S. Vander and S. Samarjit S. Vander.

He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and a large number of friends in India and abroad.

He led a disciplined life of a Baptized Sikh and he was respected for his righteousness, sincerity and compassion.

He will be remembered for his caring nature and a legacy of uprightness and courage.
