HOUSTON, Tx: First week of June marks a very important period in the Sikh calendar when our fifth Guru embraced martyrdom. To celebrate this day in 1984 and every year, thousands of Sikh pilgrims, men, women and children gather in Gurdwaras (Sikh Shrines) all over Punjab, the Sikh homeland.

It was then; the Indian army attacked the Golden Temple Amritsar and 44 other major Sikh gurdwaras and killed thousands of innocent pilgrims. In memory of those and thousands of other innocent Sikhs killed all over India, Sikhs of Houston, have organized as in the past, a blood drive for peace and human dignity.

This year’s blood donation drive was being held on June 3, 1990 (Sunday) from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm at the Sikh Center 8819 Prairie Drive Houston TX 770 64. Eighteen people donated blood. There: were 28 volunteers. As usual there was a langar (free kitchen) for everyone after the prayer meeting.
