LUCKNOW: The election of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to the Lok Sabha in the recent elections was Wednesday challenged before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court by the Janata Dal leader Rajmohan Gandhi.

Rajmohan Gandhi who was defeated by the Congress (I) president in the Amethi parliamentary. Constituency, filed a writ petition alleging that the election was conducted “in defiance of all rules, regulations and every democratic norm”.

The Janata Dal leader told reporters that allegations of widespread terror, violence, intimidation, booth capturing on large scale and use of official machinery for the furtherance of election prospects of Rajiv Gandhi have been made in the petition.

He said the petition would highlight the need for electoral reforms in the country.
