HYDERABAD: An action plan for science and technology with emphasis on rural development and poverty alleviation, in line with the manifesto of the National Front government, is being formulated, MG K Menon, federal minister of science and technology, said here, PTI reports

Speaking to newsmen, Menon said a cabinet sub-committee had looked into the manifesto and discussions with various nodal scientific bodies were underway to prepare the action plan to be implemented within a time frame.

The entire ongoing major program in space, atomic energy and defense would continue, he said, adding the action plan would be in areas like agricultural production, energy options and employment generation.

Menon said program like “lab to land” and “lab and industry” would be strengthened in the near future. “Much has been said about these programs and the time has come to implement them in full sincerity”, he added.

When asked about the next launch of the Indian remote sensing satellite, he said “the remote sensing program will be on schedule.
